The part the buildercannot build
Past the login is where the page builder stops. The quote tool, the customer account, the stock figure that lives in a warehouse system, all of it is software, and it gets costed like software. The fortnight-long piece is priced as a fortnight, in writing, before you sign. Then it is built under your name. I join the client calls as your engineer, or I stay off them completely. Nobody there has ever heard of me.

What actually slows creative and marketing agencies
The build was costed by whoever pitched it
The clickable prototype has four interactions in it. One of them is an afternoon and one is weeks of work, and the estimate treated them as the same kind of thing. The difference shows up in the build, when the number is already in a signed scope.
The freelancer stops answering at eighty per cent
The repo is on a personal GitHub account, the staging site is on their hosting, and the environment variables were pasted into a DM in March. Picking it up costs more than starting it did, and the launch date has not moved.
The client must never learn you subcontracted
White label means you are the supplier of record, so the calls, the commits and the handover documents all have to carry your name. A subcontractor who wants the logo on their site and the client in their Slack is the wrong one for this. The one time it slips is the client you lose.
Your best client outgrows the page builder
The brochure site was fine for three years. Then they want a login, a quote tool and stock pulled from a system in their warehouse, which is where Webflow and Contentful both stop. You either turn the work down or promise something the studio cannot maintain.
custom software
One domain model, one API, one person holding all of it. Software shaped to how you already work, rather than a process reshaped to fit somebody's product roadmap. It runs on infrastructure in your accounts, and you are never locked to me to keep it running.
- A written spec you sign off first
- What it does, what it deliberately does not do, and what milestone one is. Agreed in writing before a line is written, so there is a fixed thing to hold me to instead of a moving target.
- One model of your business, not three
- A customer is one thing everywhere in the system. Most of the pain in software that has grown by accident comes from three parts of it disagreeing about what a customer is.
- Keys, servers and docs in your accounts
- The deployment, the domain and the environment variables move to you at the end. You can hand the whole thing to another engineer and they will be able to pick it up.

Deploys land as the thing fills in, not in one drop at the end. You watch it happen. And you get to change your mind while changing it is still cheap.

The product runs in your accounts, with the domain, hosting and documentation under your control. Source-code transfer is quoted separately; we agree what is included during scoping.

I got my hands on a computer at 6 and never really stopped.
Now it is decentralised finance, tokenising real-world assets and topological deep learning, then building whatever those turn into. Continuum came out of that. So did Delta Xi (δξ, an infinitesimal change in a random variable).
Bossa nova and MPB were always on at home, so I sang before I played anything. Guitar and piano came later, then jazz.
